We wish the Santa Fe PHEV’s exterior matched its inside in terms of looks, but it has one advantage: 31 miles of all-electric range and efficient hybrid fuel usage. The 1.6-litre turbocharged I-4 engine is the foundation of the PHEV model’s powertrain, just like in the conventional Santa Fe Hybrid.

The PHEV includes a battery pack that is 13.8 kWh instead of the 1.6 kWh seen in the normal Santa Fe Hybrid. The result is 261 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque in total. All of that is coupled with the standard AWD and six-speed automatic gearbox.

It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 7.0 seconds, beating the standard hybrid but falling short of the 2.5-litre turbocharged gas Santa Fe’s acceleration. The Santa Fe PHEV has a combined fuel efficiency rating of 33 mpg or 76 mpg-e, but its 31 miles of all-electric driving range makes it appealing.
